Tourism hotshots inbound

Queenstown as a tourism destination’s being showcased this month to about 16 leaders from one of the world’s largest travel brands.

Flight Centre’s chosen the resort for its next global marketing conference, which Destination Queenstown’s hosting.

The four-day event, starting September 19, includes two days of conferencing, two half-days of activities and an update for DQ members on global market trends and insights, facilitated by Mountain Scene editor Tracey Roxburgh.

Queenstown was selected by Flight Centre’s global leader, Darren Wright.

‘‘It will be the first time in probably three or four years this team has come together, and they’re all super-excited to come to Queenstown as a destination that’s important to our group,’’ New Zealand GM marketing Jodie Burnard says.

‘‘We are actually running our conference a little longer than we normally do, to be able to spend time seeing some of Queenstown’s
activities.’’

DQ business development director Kiran Nambiar says the conference is valuable because ‘‘in terms of the post-pandemic environment, all our work in the markets is starting back from scratch’’.

‘‘We’ve got an opportunity to reset how Queenstown, and NZ, is positioned in several of these itineraries across the world.’’

Nambiar says a key message will be about how the resort’s significantly broadened its product offering compared to pre-pandemic
times.

DQ is also creating a three-minute video of the conference experience to raise the resort’s profile within the wider Flight Centre team.
