They’re often the first people you see when you’re crook or hurt, and now Queenstown nurses have been recognised for their hard work.
The nursing team at Lakes District Hospital’s been named Team of the Year in the Southern DHB’s Staff Excellence Awards.
Hospital operations manager Janeen Holmes says the 41 nurses are “just absolutely fabulous people”.
“We’re very proud of them, they do an amazing job, they do all sorts of things, every day’s different.
“They’re highly-skilled nurses, a lot of them have done post-graduate study, they work extremely well within the medical team.”
There’ve been a few changes in recent years, with Queenstown’s growth bringing more people through the hospital doors.
Holmes says there’ve been staffing increases to meet that.
Acting charge nurse manager Kate Te Paa says the growth’s exciting.
“It’s a new challenge for us, to adapt our practice.
“The award itself is just lovely confirmation of the hard work we do, that’s often not portrayed in the community, we do have a fantastic team that work diligently and really are experts in their field who are working in generalist nursing.”
The nomination page for the award says: “Queenstown patients benefit greatly from their positive attitude, their caring and their willingness to flex to work with their patients’ expectations.”
“Their work is very much taken for granted, but those who have come into contact with them rarely fail to comment on the high standard of service which they provide.”
