Eagle-eyed Queenstowners got their first glimpse of Skyline Queenstown’s new 10-seater gondola cabins on the Bob’s Peak cables last week, as they were used to help install communications cables.
GM Wayne Rose says the splice was done last Thursday, so there’s now full tension on the line, and team from Doppelmayr are on the ground.
Work at present includes maintenance of the lift and checking everything’s as it should be with the towers, with concrete being poured in the new base building and some luge tracks, at the top of the hill, being relaid.
Rose says, so far, the behemoth $250 million project’s progressing well and they’re on track to reopen July 1.
‘‘We’re sticking to that date, and if I can open earlier, great,’’ he says.
