Mountain Scene’s welcomed two new staffers.

Journalist Melissa Ready and videographer Rhyva van Onselen have joined Scene and Otago Daily Times, based in Queenstown.

Both will receive their bachelor of communication, majoring in journalism, from the University of Canterbury this month.

Melissa, born and bred in Porirua, north of Wellington, has a particular interest in environmental reporting, and has covered a range of topics including climate change, sustainability and native reforestation.

She’s also a keen sports reporter — and participant — a women’s rights activist, and ‘‘a little bit of a thrill-seeker’’.

Rhyva’s originally from Hastings, in the Hawke’s Bay, and has been a keen photographer since the tender age of 10 when he was given his first DSLR.

Since June, he’s been interning with The Press, in Christchurch, and brings with him six years’ experience as a snapper and videographer, while also a keen snow boarder, swimmer and explorer.

Melissa can be contacted by email, [email protected], in the office (03) 442 7000, or on her cell, 022 027 4210.

Rhyva’s contactable via [email protected], on his cell, 022 017 8026, or in the office.
