Wakatipu High School’s Elke Koehn has come up trumps in a national photography competition.

The Year 13 student won a Canon EOS 3000D camera after taking top place in the Stills
‘hometown’ category for her image (above).

‘Stills’ saw student photographers from Years 1-13 submit their images across four  categories — one for juniors and then open categories for live, enhanced, and hometown.

Run by Rockquest Promotions, the competition aimed to offer students an accessible, creative outlet in light of lockdowns and social distancing requirements.

They were encouraged to get creative with what they had avail able to them — not judged by the number of megapixels in their camera, as much as the style and creativity they used to complete their image.

Judge and pro snapper Chris Sisarich says Elke’s image was really strong.

‘‘It’s quiet and powerful, and beautifully composed.’’

Other judges were pro photographers Petra Leary and Amanda Ratcliffe and a Canon rep.
