Mountain Scene is in the running to win a gong as the best place to work in New Zealand.
The newspaper is one of 10 finalists in the small workplace category – businesses with 20-49 staff – of the 2008 Unlimited/JRA Best Places to Work in NZ awards.
Employees at 217 Kiwi companies completed the survey, answering questions on issues such as reward and recognition, and communication.
It’s the first time Mountain Scene’s staff numbers have been large enough to be considered for prizes – it has participated since 2005 and consistently ranked in the top 11 per cent.
Mountain Scene general manager Richard Thomas says it’s worth putting effort into staff and company culture.
“Great staff and a great culture are our biggest assets,” Thomas says.
“Increased productivity and low staff turnover and recruitment costs are just some of the payoffs.
“But the biggest payoff by far is increased brand value.”
Award winners will be announced in Auckland next Wednesday.
