Whiffenpoofs on song for school foundation

Members of United States’ Yale University’s Whiffenpoofs, pictured performing at Queenstown’s Hotel St Moritz on Tuesday night, helped raise $12,000 for the Wakatipu High School Foundation (WHSF) during a whirlwind visit.

The world-famous acapella group was to have performed two concerts here, on Sunday and
Tuesday nights, but foundation trustee Karen Spires says due to travel disruptions, and increasing uncertainty around the 14-member group’s travel arrangements, the first gig was canned, and ticket-holders transferred to the one-night-only performance on Tuesday.

Hotel owner Graham Wilkinson donated the entire $150 ticket price for the three-course-
meal and performance to the foundation, with his local winery, Nevis Bluff Wines, also
donating the wines.

So far, WHSF has donated more than $1.25 million for special programmes, over and above what the government provides, including camps, academics, music and cultural events.
