Tongs at the ready: Mitre 10 Mega Queenstown marketing and promotions manager Toni Boatwright and GM Paul Jackson with St John's Sarah Bloxham

Queenstown’s Mitre 10 Mega is hosting a mega-fundraiser for St John ambulance service tomorrow with its latest ‘BBQ for Good’ event.

Running from 11am-2pm, the fundraiser coincides with St John’s annual appeal and the launch of its Major Incident Support Team, which will attend major incidents and any big events with a new truck arriving late next month.

Aside from Mitre 10 staff cooking ‘‘fantastic’’ burgers at its community barbecue in exchange for donations, there’ll be family-oriented
activities such as face painting, a colouring-in competition and an in-store treasure hunt.

St John personnel will undertake CPR demonstrations and bring along therapy pets and a big penguin mascot.

They’ll also bring along local elderly on the ‘friendship drive’ programme they undertake every weekend to address loneliness and isolation.

Store customers will also be able to donate to St John at the till.

‘‘We are incredibly grateful to Mitre 10 Mega Queenstown for their support,’’ Hata Hone St John’s community engagement coordinator Sarah
Bloxham says.
