NON-motorised access to a section of Queenstown’s Shotover River at Arthurs Point’s been permanently granted.

Last year, the Arthurs Point Community Association, in conjunction with Central Otago Whitewater, trialled a blanket permit for non-motorised river users from 5.30pm-9pm on Wednesdays and Fridays for the Shotover concession area.

It covers the section of river between Oxenbridge Tunnel and Tucker Beach.

Following the successful 12-week trial, the access is now permanent, year-round, for all non-motorised, floatable recreational activity, which provides unique access to the river.

That means people don’t need to pre-arrange a permit with Shotover Jet during those times for that section of the river, however, that’s still required with Shotover Jet at all other times.
