Wakatipu Meals on Wheels has a new coordinator in the driver’s seat.

Arrowtowner Penny Hamilton, left, has taken over from Queenstowner Marg Arnott, who’s been volunteer driver coordinator for the past four-and-a-half years.

The coordinator ensures mainly elderly clients, or anyone else referred by a doctor or medical professional, are delivered meals each lunchtime, Monday to Friday.

The service has three runs with drivers mostly rostered by local organisations like Rotary, Lions, Inner Wheel, Arrowtown Village Association and Whakatipu Ski Club.

Arnott, who describes her time as “challenging and rewarding” says she had about 68 drivers in her phone.

Hamilton, who’s been a driver herself for about 10 years, says the service is valuable as it “helps these people remain in their homes, independently”.

Arvida’s Lake Wakatipu Care Centre prepares the meals under contract to Te Whatu Ora Southern (formerly Southern District Health Board).
