Claire’s on fire

She’s done it again.

Queenstown volunteer firey Claire Jones (pictured) placed third out of 220 women during last Saturday’s Firefighter Sky Tower Challenge, in Auckland.

Jones managed to climb the 1103 stairs, wearing full kit, including breathing apparatus weighing 25kg, in 12 minutes and 46 seconds, shaving 50 seconds of her 2023 time.

A a total of $1.9 million was raised for Leukaemia and Blood Cancer NZ through this year’s event, taking the total raised for the charity
to more than $14m since its inception in 2005.

Jones is now gearing up for her next event, the World Firefighter Challenge, in Nashville, Tennessee, in October, where she’s being joined by fellow Queenstown firey Samuel Stafford-Bush.
