Another hotel’s just opened at Remarkables Park.
Quest Queenstown, featuring 40 apartments, opened this month following a two-year
Its franchise director Mark Williams says the hotel’s a ‘‘great example of the confidence’’ franchisees have in the model and that the accommodation sector, particularly for business
travellers, will rebound.
‘‘Opening Quest Queenstown during the middle of a pandemic was not as crazy as it sounds,’’ he says.
‘‘I also operate Quest Invercargill and the mix of Kiwi corporate and leisure travellers that are attracted to Quest has helped us to ride out the storm.’’
While Williams says it’s ‘‘disappointing’’ the government didn’t do more to help accommodation businesses ‘‘with anything more than the wage subsidy’’, in Queenstown’s case he’s confident as soon as Aucklanders can travel ‘‘we’ll be back to the pre-Delta levels and able to rebuild’’.
‘‘Add to that the opening of the Tasman travel bubble, and all of New Zealand will start to see the benefit.’’
The new hotel’s created five fulltime positions already, with plans to increase staffing to 10 as visitation to Queenstown bounces back.
