A benefit concert at Camp Glenorchy this Friday is aimed at raising the $22,000 the Glenorchy Trails Trust needs to complete the first stage of a Queenstown to Greenstone trail.

‘The Final Mile Fundraiser’ will be headlined by former Arrowtowner and international folk musician Holly Arrowsmith (above), who’ll be giving her first concert since becoming a mum.

The trust was set up in 2017 to create a series of walking and cycling trails linking Queenstown and the Greenstone Valley via the head of the lake communities of Glenorchy, Kinloch and Paradise, as well as the Rees and Dart Valleys.

It’s already raised $67,000 for the first stage, a 1.2km trail from Glenorchy to the parking area at the bottom of the Whakaari Conservation Area, which has the only mountain bike hill trail in the Glenorchy area.

The trail will run beside the Glenorchy to Queenstown road and pass through Campbelltown, a satellite settlement about 500m south of the township.

When that’s completed, the trust wants to extend it in two further stages to create a loop that will run through the Peninsula Reserve.

This Next Friday’s event begins at 5.30pm with cocktails and dinner before the concert starts at 7:30pm.
