The year no one wants to remember — but we’ll never forget — will be sent out with a bang tonight in Queenstown.

While elsewhere, globally, Covid-19’s thrown a spanner into traditional
New Year’s Eve celebrations and gatherings, City Hall’s planning a family-friendly party at Earnslaw Park, complete with a midnight fireworks display.

Council events manager Jan Maxwell says from 2pm till 5pm today there’ll be face-painting and roaming entertainers for kids.

Main-stage entertainment, on Earnslaw Park, starts at 7.30pm with local acts Haven, Calico and Freefall, while DJ Pops and DJ Cuz will take over a second stage, at the Memorial Gates, from 9pm — they’ll go through till 1am.

There won’t be any booze, though — City Hall’s alcohol ban came into effect on Christmas Day and runs till 6am, January 6.
