A collaboration between two Queenstown businesses has resulted in one scooping a  national award.

Print Central’s won golds in the label and outdoor signage divisions at the recent Pride in Print awards, keeping alive its record of grabbing a gold every year it’s entered.

Managing director Graeme Hastie’s particularly chuffed about its entry for the label award, a design-and-print project for a bottle label for nearby craft sake brewery Zenkuro.

His company made a Covid-induced ‘pivot’ 10 months ago to focus part of its operation on labels, so the judges’ early recognition is particularly gratifying, he says.

‘‘We made the decision to invest in a commercial label machine, shipped from Japan.

‘‘This thing is like buying a small house — it wasn’t an easy decision.’’

However, the ‘‘leap’’ into labels has turned out to be well timed, with the labels and packaging sector now booming, especially for artisan products.

Zenkuro co-founder and head brewer Dave Joll says its collab with Print Central’s a case of two resort businesses helping each other succeed in challenging times.

‘‘We produce premium-grade sake and don’t cut any corners on the quality of ingredients or production, so we need packaging with a high-quality finish that reflects that.’’

Print Central also won gold for a stairway wall wrap it produced for Vinyl Underground.
