Queenstown mayor Jim Boult’s pictured with a new book documenting the life and legacy of
Queenstown’s founder, William Gilbert Rees, written by his great granddaughter.

Rosemary Grace Marryatt, 81, says the project started out as a booklet for her children and grandchildren, but she and her husband soon saw its wider appeal.

The former biologist and science teacher, who lives in Waikanae, says it’s a ‘‘great relief’’ to have the self-published 192-page book, A sheep in my eye, finished.

‘‘[Rees] really should be remembered for not just the Queenstown situation … but for what he did afterwards and always, wherever he went, he became very involved in the  community,’’ she says.
