Cruising for a schmoozing

This is the first peek at the five-star luxury inside Queenstown’s latest tourist attraction – the 60-tonne cruiser Pacific Jemm.

The 24 metre-long boat made its maiden charter voyage on Lake Wakatipu yesterday, ferrying 35 Chinese wedding party guests to Walter Peak.

On board, VIP passengers enjoyed a grand tour of the eight-year-old vessel – which boasts four bedroom cabins, each with its own ensuite, a spa bath, fully-fitted kitchen and Sky TV.

The boat – owned by the Mahoney family from Wellington and worth “several million dollars” – arrived at its O’Regans Wharf berth in Queenstown Bay on Tuesday after powering from Kingston, where it had been transported by road from Bluff.

It costs $1500 an hour to rent and is attracting a lot of interest from the resort’s bustling corporate and conference market, says owner Mike Mahoney.
