Beloved TV and movie theme songs will ring out as Queenstown identities take to the ice for an annual fundraiser.

The fifth annual Stars on Ice event will be held in the resort on October 12.

The eight pairs, comprising of local identities and members of the Queenstown Ice Skating Club, are halfway through their eight weeks of training.

Randy van der Gracht and Elaine Thomson laced up their skates early on Monday morning for another training run.

Van der Gracht says their routine will have a “country vibe”, and will be performed to the Country Calendar theme song.

While van der Gracht has experience on the ice, and works at the ice arena, Thomson says she was talked into giving it a go by a mate.

“It seemed really far in the future, so I said yes,” she laughs.

Stars on Ice coordinator Ange Gibson says the event is the club’s main fundraiser.

Last year’s event raised $7000, and they’re hoping to raise even more this year, she says.

Tickets can be purchased via the Stars on Ice Facebook page.
