Creating a tech town

Online community: Duncan Faulkner's looking to use the tech industry to solve some of Queenstown's big problems

A Queenstown tech company’s launched an ‘‘online community’’ to support Queenstown-
Lakes’ growing technology industry.

Southern Software founder and CEO Duncan Faulkner says TechTown.nz is a digital space for people in terested in tech to connect, list jobs, create business profiles and establish relationships with others in the community.

‘‘As a region, there is no doubt that a thriving tech industry can solve some of the major
challenges we face, such as housing affordability and environmental impact.

‘‘In order to do this, it is vital that we bring the tech community together.’’

He’s hoping the website can build on the work done by Startup Queenstown Lakes, by
creating a space for people, particularly those working from home, to discuss tech opportunities and challenges, brainstorm and collaborate.
