Queenstown Airport’s been recognised at the New Zealand Airport Awards, picking up an award for its innovative and sustainable approach to resurfacing the airport’s apron.

The airport won the Sustainability Initiative of the Year Award for the $7 million, eight-week project, for which it partnered with Downer, completed at the end of last year.

The project used mixed recycled toner cartridge residue (TonerPave) and beer bottle sand derived from crushed, recycled beer bottles instead of traditional non-renewable aggregates, with no impact on the quality of asphalt.
