Queenstown’s Ben Howie, of Foley’s Plumbing, has recently been named the country’s ‘most valuable’ young plumber.

Howie, right, pictured with NZPM co-op chief executive Rob Kidd, also placed fifth in Plumbing World’s Young Plumber of the Year competition, held in Hamilton.

Now in its fifth year, the competition started with almost 350 plumbers, all aged under 31, competing in branch qualifiers before winners moved on to regional events, battling it out in a range of theoretical and practical tests designed to test their trade expertise.

From the initial entrants, 10 were selected to compete in the recent national final, with Howie representing the Southern region.
