Christmas cheer packages will be given to 50 Queenstown families this week.

The Salvation Army – assisted by staff from NZSki – is delivering the food hampers, which are filled with a festive feast.

Blair McKenzie, Sallies’ community worker, says: “They contain chickens and cheesecakes, Christmas puds, pavlova and other treats.

“These are not the usual assistance hampers – they’re Christmas cheer hampers for families who have engaged with us this year.”

NZSki staff are helping as a thank-you to the Salvation Army. The Christian charity supplied free food parcels in June for 400 workers from Coronet Peak and The Remarkables who weren’t getting paid while the mountains were closed due to late snow.

NZSki boss James Coddington says: “This is a great chance for us to give something back to the community and to the Salvation Army.

“They helped our workers out early in the year when we opened later than scheduled, so this is a way of saying thank you.”
