THIS COMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED. CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WINNERS ROB ANDREWS AND HOLLY HARGREAVES.

Members of Lyttelton string band The Eastern are no strangers to hard work – and it’s finally paying off.

The hugely-popular group, which plays in Arrowtown for the first time on Friday night, play close to 200 nights a year around New Zealand, Australia and the United States.

The four-to-five piece band’s passion for music and dedication to touring has led them to play with big music names like Steve Earle, Old Crow Medicine Show, Jimmy Barnes and Fleetwood Mac.

Since forming in 2006, the group has come a long way – last year frontman Adam McGrath was one of five finalists in the prestigious Apra Silver Scroll Awards.

Their latest album Hope and Wire from 2012 helped inspire a TV3 series on the Canterbury earthquakes bearing the same name. Filming begins next month and The Eastern will feature in it.

Their Arrowtown gig on February 15, at the Arrowtown Hall at 7.30pm is part of a 29-date nationwide tour.

Mountain Scene wants you to see this brilliant show so we’re giving away two double passes.
Competition closes at noon on Friday, February 15. Winners will be notified by phone.
