The promoter of an upcoming gig by X Factor judge Stan Walker says Queenstown’s council makes things easy.
Promoter Brent Eccles says an Arrowtown show has been added to Walker’s upcoming nationwide tour – and in large part it’s thanks to Queenstown bureaucrats.
Walker, supported by X Factor New Zealand third-placegetter Whenua Patuwai, will play at Arrowtown’s Athaeneum Hall on Setptember 22. The $55 tickets go on sale on Monday.
Eccles says when he first contacted the Queenstown Lakes District Council about a possible concert in the Wakatipu he’d been considering the Events Centre.
However, Eccles says he later decided he wanted a small venue with more of a community feel and ended up in Arrowtown.
Eccles reserves particular praise for new council operations manager Ruth Stokes and her staff.
“They made it quite easy for me. They were totally cool and really easy and really pleasurable to deal with – that really makes things easy and makes a big difference for people like me.
“It shows to me that Queenstown thinks the idea of having concerts come to town is a good thing.”
The Arrowtown gig – on a Sunday – will kick off at 8pm and Walker will play for about 75 minutes.
Walker, whose tour runs from Whangarei to Invercargill through September and October, has sold over 170,000 singles and close to 100,000 albums, collecting five New Zealand Music Awards along the way.
