A Queenstown ski star will be getting a helping hand from local trusts to fund her training.
Taylor Rapley, 20, fresh from a stellar season in the United States where she podiumed in Super G at the US junior nationals, will cash-in on fundraisers during Winter Festival as the third annual recipient of the Bruce Grant Youth Trust.
Rapley will get up to $10,000 raised during this year’s Winter Festival. A charity auction at WinterFest’s boxing fight night Thriller in the Chiller features a Sugar Ray Leonard boxing glove and day-long charter on the Pacific Gem. Coin collections also raise funds for the trust.
Rapley is back on home soil after months laying tracks in the northern hemisphere and training at Vail, Colorado. Long-term, Rapley has her sights on the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
Local ski racer Tim Cafe and Arrowtown snowboarder Hamish Bagley are previous recipients of the trust.
