Sunshine Sound System warms up for the Shotover Sunshine Festival with a night at Queenstown’s World Bar this Saturday.
DJ Downtown Brown and MC KPz take to the stage at the official festival pre-party with a heady mix of hip-hop, dance and drum ‘n’ bass.
Downtown Brown, aka Simon Hendl, is the man behind the biennial festival – which sees the Wakatipu rock on Waitangi weekend to top Aotearoa music.
Hendl: “First and foremost it’s a party.
“Sunshine Sound System hasn’t performed in Queenstown for quite a while so we’re looking forward to that.
“Basically we usually play a whole lot of remixes and party jams – things people will find familiar but with a bit of a twist.
“Plenty of hip hop and dance hall, and I’ve also been away on my computer buying lots of new drum ‘n’ bass, so we’ll finish the night with a good drum ‘n’ bass rinse out I’d say.”
Free VIP tickets and festival bar tabs will also be given away on the night.
Former Subculture owner Hendl is delighted to tie-in with former rival World Bar.
“We’re stoked World Bar is getting behind us. With Subculture out of the picture, they’ve really taken on
a lot more of that slightly more progressive music roster.
“Queenstown’s gig of the year last year for me was Sola Rosa and that was down to World Bar, as was Ahoribuzz – both are playing at the festival, so there’s some really relevant crossover.”
