Multi-talented reality show favourite Stan Walker doesn’t do downtime.|
The musician has barely had a moment to catch his breath since he shot to fame winning the final series of Australian Idol in 2009.
Not content with recording three albums – selling more than 170,000 singles, 100,000 albums and picking up five New Zealand Music Awards along the way – Walker has crammed in time as a judge on New Zealand’s X Factor and even made his acting debut in February in feature film Mt Zion.
Now the 22-year-old has embarked on a huge 23-date national tour, which comes to Arrowtown’s Athenaeum Hall on Sunday.
“I love everything else but my number one passion is to sing, entertain, share my music and write music so that people can be inspired,” Walker says.
“My favourite thing is this. The tour so far has been awesome, the bomb. I’m blessed with some awesome fans.
“And it’s exciting because this is the first tour where it’s all my own stuff.
“Usually I love doing a cover or two but I’ve got too many songs to choose from now.”
Walker played the lead role of Turei in movie Mt Zion, which debuted at number one at the NZ box office and secured a successful Australian release.
Take It Easy, Walker’s single from the film, held a number one New Zealand chart position and gained platinum sales, followed by the successful single Bulletproof in May.
After the tour he’ll head back to Australia to release a new single.
“No holidays till Christmas,” he says. “It’s tiring but this is what I do and I love it.”
And Walker’s confident he’ll maintain his energy all the way through the two-month tour.
“The live performances are where I come alive and that’s where it’s really at for me. All I know is that we’re going to entertain people.”
Catch Stan Walker – supported by X Factor New Zealand’s Whenua Patuwai at Arrowtown’s Athenaeum Hall – this Sunday at 8pm. Tickets are $55
