A raft of top Kiwi musos will front a new Queenstown festival on Waitangi Weekend 2011.

Shapeshifter, Fat Freddy’s Drop, Hollie Smith and The Last SOS are among a long lineup booked to belt out tunes at the Shotover Sunshine Festival on February 5.

The sounds will be pumped out to a crowd of 5000 at a Littles Road venue, near Dalefield, from midday to midnight.

Queenstown DJ Downtown Brown, aka Simon Hendl, co-owner of local watering hole Subculture, has set up the event with his partner Antonia Crowley and will play a gig at the festival.

Hendl hopes it’ll become a biennial feature on the local music calendar and will compliment Wanaka’s biennial music bash Rippon Open Air Festival.

“It’s really awesome having Fat Freddy’s and Shapeshifter on the same bill. It’s quite a rarity these days with them both being so massive but we definitely wanted to make an impact in our first year and make sure we had a really good line-up,” Hendl says.

Earlybird tickets went on sale today and cost $100 plus booking fees.
