Gosh, I’m being told by people who’ve only had a few years in town that they’re over Winter Festival.
Well, I’ve experienced 24 festivals, and yes, I’m on the wrong side of 50, just, but I can tell you I’m just as amped for this year’s 10-day festival as any I can remember.
What’s good this time is a few new events to go along with old standards such as the Dog Barking and the Street Parade.
I’m especially looking forward to Saturday’s soccer match, especially with the All Whites coming back from the Confederations Cup in South Africa and in view of the fearsome reputation of the Victory captain (see page 4 of this week’s Mountain Scene!).
But also on my list are Te Radar’s spoof on New Zealand history next Wednesday – he’s a seriously funny talent – and next Thursday’s race meeting at the Memorial Hall.
Oh, I almost forgot the Lynch Mob’s rendition of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon on Sunday night shouldn’t be missed. Yep, I’m so old I remember that album hitting the record stores. We called them LPs in those days…
So stay tuned and I’ll let you know how my festival is going….
