World class DJ and hip hop producer Mr Thing will bring his slick skills to two Queenstown venues this weekend.
The British turntablist, aka Marc Bowles, was a founding member of renowned collective Scratch Perverts.
They won the world’s premier DJ competition – the DMC World Championships – in 1999 as a foursome before Mr Thing embarked on a solo career.
In 2000, he was crowned DMC UK champion and placed third in the DMC World individual competition. Mr Thing later became a resident DJ at London’s Fabric nightclub and went on to collaborate with everyone from Yungun, Doc Brown and Devise to DJ Premier, DJ Vadim and Jazzy Jeff.
With 25 years on the decks and more than 30,000 vinyl records in his arsenal, Mr Thing plays World Bar on Saturday and then Red Rock on Sunday.
DJs Hudge and Doolittle will support Bowles at the free admission World Bar gig while afternoon punters at Red Rock will be entertained by an entirely different sound.
Roots reggae singer-songwriter Regan Perry will perform a three-hour set on Sunday.
The accomplished musician from the North Island town of Te Kuiti, has toured as both a solo artist and as part of roots reggae group Cornerstone Roots.
Perry’s 2009 solo album Wiser was self-produced with help from famous London-based producer Mike Neilson, who has worked with U2 and Jamiroquai.
It showcases Perry’s chilled and authentic NZ soul, roots and reggae sound. The musician has supported many top acts from Katchafire to Jimmy Cliff, Kora and Rhombus.
Catch Mr Thing at World Bar, Saturday 9pm-4am and Red Rock, Sunday 9pm. Regan Perry plays Red Rock, Sunday, 4-7pm. Free admission
