A man being billed as one of the UK’s greatest comedic impersonators has squeezed Queenstown into his busy schedule.
Stand-up comedy returns to the Wakatipu this Saturday with a side-splitting line-up of top international comedians, which includes popular UK comic and impressionist Anil Desai.
New Zealand-based Canadian Jeremy Elwood – a regular on TV’s 7 Days – headlines at the Laugh Club gig at SkyCity Casino.
Desai and Elwood are backed by New Zealand’s best MC Nick Rado.
Rado says: “We’re lucky to have one of the greatest UK impersonators in Anil.
“He’s just done the Sydney Comedy Festival, has been on cruise ships earning ridiculous amounts of money, and had one free weekend. We became friends last year so he contacted us.
“His impersonations are so good – all the voices and the little nuances.”
Elwood will provide local flavour.
“He’ll bring topical humour. He studied in Dunedin, knows Queenstown well and used to gig there.”
Rado has won the NZ Comedy Guild Best MC the last two years running: “I’m very fortunate to have won. It’s tough because you’re first on and have to take a cold audience. But I love bills like this because if I can get it to a level they’ll just knock it out of the park with how funny they are.”
Tickets are $25 for the 9pm show from the casino’s cashier desk.
