Phew! The bandmates of American Express Queenstown Winter Festival opening act Dave Dobbyn have arrived.
Two of the Kiwi music legend’s backing band members had to fly via helicopter from Lumsden due to road closures from snow.
The pair made it in time for soundcheck down at Earnslaw Park this afternoon.
Other band members got as far as Oamaru when they discovered the road was closed but they were also choppered in.
Dobbyn says they felt like true rock stars getting transported by helicopter.
“I’m thrilled to have them here,” Dobbyn says.
Dobbyn will be playing his hit songs and will be singing Kiwi anthem ‘Slice of Heaven’ with a support choir of 20 children from local schools just before the fireworks which are scheduled for 7pm.
Dobbyn will then play a full set afterwards.
The entertainment kicks off at 5.30pm with The Fletcherz followed by Songstars winners and Queenstown’s Holly Arrowsmith.
In Queenstown today, Dobbyn says: “I always love coming to Queenstown. I have precious memories here.”
