SESSIONING THE STAIR SET AT MOUNTAIN DEW NIGHT SESSIONS

Snow Park NZ’s new stair set feature opened during the day yesterday in preparation for the inaugural Mountain Dew Night Sesions rail jam held last night. A new event to the calendar, the rail jam is a relaxed and fun jam format snowboard series made up of four events leading into an invitational final.

Registrations flooded in during the day, with the field including a mix of local and international riders keen to participate. The female field included riders Callie Conaghan, Shelly Gotlieb and Charlotte Trundle while the men included local riders Jay Walsh and Snow Park team rider Andy Kennerly.

During the jam session the riders went all out to impress the judges and the crowd pulling off some impressive tricks. Competitors were judged on style and technicality of tricks, all vying for a $500 cash prize pool and $500 of Quest Snowboard store vouchers. Riders were also competing to gain points in order to receive an invitation to the final which has a massive $9000 cash prize pool.

Following the practice, all 32 riders proceeded to pull of a succession of tricks on the impressive feature, wowing the spectators and judges alike/

Final results saw Jordan Reher (24) take out the first male prize of $300 cash and 9 points towards his final standing in the series. Tom Grooten (19) followed closely in second place gaining 6 points and a $200 Quest voucher and third place was taken by Andy Kennerly (21) receiving $100 Quest voucher and 3 points.

In the female division, Queenstown rider Callie Conaghan (24) placed first receiving $200 cash and 9 points, followed by fellow Queenstown local and Snow Park NZ team rider Shelly Gotlieb ($150 Quest voucher – 6 points) and Charlotte Trundle (24) of Wanaka placing third ($50 Quest Voucher – 3 points).

Fifty dollar Snow Park NZ vouchers also went out to Callie Conaghan and Jordan Reher for best tricks of the night.

The next Mountain Dew Night Sesions event is scheduled for Thursday, July 17, followed by August 7 and 28. The invitational final is set for Friday, September 5th.

Snow Park NZ manager Sam Lee was keen to stage an evening competition to complement the new nightriding activities Snow Park has to offer this season. “We wanted to be able to give our customers a new evening activity at the resort aside from the nightriding and this event has turned out to be a perfect addition”

The sound system blasted tunes across the terrain park throughout the evening and the bbq sizzled away to feed the troops. Following a short and sweet prize giving the beers started flowing in the Woolshed Bar. A good time was had by all.

Mountain Dew Night Sessions is proudly sponsored by Mountain Dew, Quest and Jameson Whisky.
