Keeping the family in tune

Queenstown duo Brentwood have only been gigging a few months – but they’ve been singing together their whole lives.

Talented siblings Isla and Finley Brentwood finally formed a duo in February after years performing as soloists and in musicals.

“Our family are delighted – they’ve been saying we should do this for so long,” Isla says.

“It feels very natural singing together and our voices blend quite well.”

Show business is in the Arrowtown family’s blood – mum Kathleen is in choirs, a ukulele orchestra and a regular lead in Queenstown productions.

Isla, 25, studied musical theatre at the National Academy of Singing and Dramatic Art before going overseas with several productions.

Finley, 22, has also starred in several shows, including playing Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar last year, and recently made it through to the X Factor bootcamp.

The versatile Brentwoods specialise in acoustic covers, classics and contemporary songs – everything from Crowded House to The Killers.

“We try to do songs that people wouldn’t expect but they love and can get up and dance to.”

Catch Brentwood from 9.30pm this Saturday in Wild Thyme Bar and Restaurant, SkyCity Casino. Admission is free. R20
