Fresh from their Glastonbury festival buzz, Aotearoa roots music kings Katchafire play Queenstown this weekend.
The Hamilton seven-piece took a collection of their greatest hits on the UK and Europe summer festival circuit in 2013. They also toured the US.
The 21 songs from the four studio albums were complied into The Best So Far album and released to the European market.
And now they’re back home, the band is touring the album along with new material.
Katchafire’s Logan Bell says: “It will be released here next week.
“We’ve never actually had a release in the UK so this was about introducing ourselves – ‘hey, we’re Katchafire’.
“It went well and the natural progression seemed to roll it out here.”
Katchafire played the Silver Haze zone at the iconic Glastonbury festival, along with Kiwi rockers Six60.
“It was a good vibe and we had a few Kiwi boys running around – that place is crazy,” Bell says. “We didn’t have enough time to take it all in but our own area was just unbelievable.
“We were a little bit scared when we turned up for Glastonbury – it had been raining overnight, everyone had their Wellingtons out and it was ankle high.
“But it dried up by the time we played. It was a good summer.”
Now signed with European distributors VP Greensleeves Records, Katchafire played their own gigs in London along with festivals across the continent.
“We do tweak it up a little bit for different audiences and tours,” Bell says.
“So we’ve taken some of what we learned overseas for the tour here. The set’s got a bit more hype, bit more action-packed – we’ve medleyed-up some tracks to fit more in.”
An album of new material is expected next year.
