Justin Bieber: Never Say Never

Rating: 3 ½ / 5 stars

For those of you who have not yet heard of him, Justin Bieber is a 17-year old Canadian who hails from a small town called Stratford. Raised by a single mom, he taught himself to play drums, guitar and piano. He’s a down to earth, Christian boy who likes the usual things. Pizza, basketball and music.

Oh, and he just happens to be a platinum-selling, Grammy-nominated superstar. Never Say Never gives an interesting look behind the scenes as Justin prepares for a sold out concert at New York’s iconic Madison Square Garden. (which sold out in 22 minutes)

Bieber has a lot to thank You Tube for, as it was performances recorded by his mother in 2007 that caught the eye of talent manager Scooter Braun while he was surfing the net. Before long, Bieber had a recording contract, and was counting superstars like Will Smith and David Beckham among his fans.

He may not have made it to superstardom years ago without the help of the internet, but he would no doubt have made for a talented drummer, as his skills in that department were quite formidable at the age of just 8, and are shown in the movie.

The effect that Bieber has on his fans is incredible. During one performance of the movie earlier this week, the screams coming from the youngsters almost matched the volume of the film. The girls were loud as well.

Time will tell if Bieber is still around after his voice breaks. I have to say, even though I am not a fan of his music, or his hair for that matter, he comes across as an ordinary, humble kid who just happened to get very VERY lucky.

I admit, I like Justin Bieber. Just don’t tell anyone.
