Showbiz Queenstown’s rendition of rock opera Jesus Chris Superstar has just three nights to play – you don’t want to miss it.
Director Marty Newell, who incidentally played Jesus 15 years ago locally, has pulled off a visual and audio feast in his directorial debut.
Jesus, played by talented vocalist Finley Brentwood – of local music duo Brentwood – is outstanding as the lead with top supporting performances by Paul Halsted as Judas and an hilarious and quite genius star turn by local legal beagle Graeme Todd as King Herod – the scene is almost a show stealer.
Queenstowner Peter Waaka - playing Pontius Pilate – really dominates, taking command of the stage whenever he sets foot on it.
High-energy Amanda Fearnehough shows her class leading many of the dazzling dance numbers.
The whole thing is almost over too quickly – and is a moving, powerful and superb night of entertainment.
They’ve done the show proud.
Shows continue nightly from 8pm tonight, Friday and Saturday.
Tickets range from $25 to $50.
