The first ever Hilux New Zealand Rural Games take place this Waitangi holiday weekend at Queenstown Recreation Ground, Memorial Street.
Things kick off with the Running of the Wools – more than 300 horned merino sheep charging through the centre of Queenstown. This free event begins at midday on Waitangi Day (Friday 6 Feb). Then on Saturday and Sunday watch the best line up of rural athletes ever assembled in NZ as they compete for national honours in ‘sports that built the nation’.
Entertainment from the Topp Twins plus local food and wine and the Queenstown Summer Concert this Saturday evening featuring James Reid of the Feelers and country pop star, Jody Direen.
