Winter Festival-goers can now don skates and hit the ice in the middle of town.

Queenstown’s glittering downtown Wonderland Ice Rink on the Village Green opened last night as the 10-day revelry got underway.

It’s open 10am-10pm during the resort’s biggest party.

American Express card holders can even test out their skills with a friend for free – the first 80 card members to step up each day with their card and photo ID get a 45 minute play at no cost. The offer is valid once per day.

The 45-minute sessions cost from $10-$22, including skate hire.

The rink will host a “Stars on Ice” show on June 28, featuring local 18-year-old figure skater Chris Boyd, Queenstown Figure Skating Club and Queenstown Ice Arena Skate School students and Australian figure skater Brooke Crawford.
