George FM DJs in the mix

Auckland DJ Dean Campbell doesn’t need much of an excuse to come to Queenstown.

The George FM music maestro is one of five DJs bringing apres-ski party sounds to bars for Winter Festival – and broadcasting his breakfast show from the resort this week.

“It’s always nice to have an excuse to go to Queenstown; I love it so much.”

The apres-ski sessions culminate in a final gig tomorrow night – Thank George it’s Friday – doubling as a new venue opening.

The people behind local institution The World Bar – destroyed by fire last month – are opening ‘pop-up’ venue The Find to ensure their scheduled festival event can go ahead.

Campbell (pictured) says: “We were gutted when we heard about the fire because we did some DJing at The World Bar last year when we came down and it was actually one of our favourite spots.”

Campbell is optimistic about the pop-up venue: “Everyone who goes along to check it out is going to be having this cool new experience and we get to share that with them, which is awesome.”

What he plays depends on the atmosphere he’s in but people can expect a mix of house, drum and bass, hip hop and funk.

“It’s really good when people are just there to party, dance and get loose rather than just stand around and look at each other,” Campbell says.

Tomorrow night he performs alongside Dan Aux, Kirsteen Mackenzie, and Nick Dwyer at The Find on 53 Shotover Street.

It starts at 9pm and entry is free.
