Call of the wild

Top rockers I Am Giant will be just at home on the mountains as they are on stage when they hit the resort next week.

The adrenaline junkie group has already been signed up as Quiksilver Ambassadors for Europe and has had tracks featured on a raft of extreme sports DVDs.

Now they can’t wait to rip it up on Queenstown slopes.

“We are all into extreme sports but snowboarding is our favourite,” drummer Shelton Woolright says. “We threw in a few days up the mountain when we played at last year’s Winter Festival and it was great.”

The London-based, half-Kiwi and part-British band is back in New Zealand to road test long-awaited debut album The Horrifying Truth.

I Am Giant will blast out a blistering set at Revolver on Wednesday that’s sure to include their hit singles And We’ll Defy, Neon Sunrise and City Limits.

The four-strong outfit is already a live force to be reckoned with, having rocked the Big Day Out festivals in Auckland and Sydney as well as building a growing following in Europe, Japan and South East Asia.

And as Woolright used to keep the beat for multi platinum-selling NZ band Blindspott, he knows a thing or two about keeping the fans happy.

“It’s been nearly six years since I last released an album and it’s like I’m back on track and doing what I do best,” Woolright explains.

“We had been playing a huge amount of gigs with no record out, which was crazy.

“But now the album has finally arrived I feel like we are standing at the edge of a cliff. It’s awesome.”
