Jacks Point Angry Dragons bowler Paul Downing fires out Queenstown Central Pelicans batsman Brad Patterson for 29 at the Events Centre last Friday.
The Pelicans had the last laugh, however, combating heavy rain to beat newcomers Jacks Point by 53 runs to win the season’s first Mountain Scene Twenty/20 Cricket league game.
In other first-round games played on Sunday, Frankton Reptiles beat the other new team, Kelvin Heights Ducks, and defending champion Fernhill/Sunshine Bay Goats thrashed Wakatipu Golden Retrievers. Arrowtown Massive, which didn’t win a game in its inaugural season, also beat Lake Hayes Estate Rabbits.
Tomorrow at 5.30pm, Lake Hayes Estate plays Frankton, then from 1pm Sunday Jacks Point plays Fernhill/Sunshine Bay, Kelvin Heights plays Wakatipu, and Central Queenstown is up against Arrowtown.
