Hundreds lined Queenstown’s waterfront yesterday to watch the antics of brave entrants in Winter Festival’s wacky Day on the Bay.
The Birdman competition kicked off the midwinter madness at noon, followed by the Splash and Dash and Undy 500.
Spray tans, blonde wigs and white bikinis proved a winning formula for Hush Spa’s Birdman entry yet again.
Jenny Hodgson, Jayne Palmer, Faye James and masseuse Bruce Anderson danced, acted and then plunged their way into top spot for the quirky contest.
Crazy contestants in the Splash and Dash race also took a dip in icy Lake Wakatipu, jumping off a yacht and sprinting home along the beach.
Queenstown swimmer McGregor Fea was first across the line, much to the annoyance of second place-getter Stefan Haworth, who had won it for the past two years running.
