A 10-minute wait in the extreme sports booking office – read reception – and lack of lake views immediately alerted us that Queenstown Lake View Holiday Park promises much but delivers little.
Of 13 campervan sites we stayed at in New Zealand, this has the most expensive site fees.
In addition, shower fees are imposed and washing machine/dryer fees are double everywhere else we stayed.
Not only that, campervans are crammed in, black hole of Calcutta-style, so that you view your neighbours on both sides plus front and back.
Shower cubicles don’t have screens or floor mats so when you finish showering, you step into muddy water – that gave us the blues.
My wife’s shower was missing a soap dish. I had one – sheer luxury.
The location’s pretty good. A nice walk to a nice town. But maybe it’s time for some competition.

EDITOR’S NOTE: The council-owned Queenstown Lake View Holiday Park was offered right of reply but declined.
Nice finishing touch
What a great public relations exercise it was for NZSki to open Coronet Peak for season pass holders between 10am-2pm last Monday.
The snow was super, the crowd just right and staff helpful and friendly as always.
While the Coronet Express was the only chairlift available, staff also manned a barbecue.
What a great day. Many thanks.

I’m sure many other people would like to join me in thanking NZSki for their generosity in opening Coronet
Peak last Monday for season pass holders.
It was a fantastic end to a great season, which has certainly been one of the best.
The new systems put in place this year – from bus transport to significantly improved service levels – delivered for everyone who skied there.
As a longstanding season pass holder, I’d like to commend NZSki on their ongoing efforts and I’m already looking forward to the 2010 winter season and the further improvements I understand are coming.

Those great guys at Coronet made a superb call by opening up their facility on Monday for season pass holders for an extra day of bliss - excellent snow, brilliant weather and so few people.
Then to top it all off they did a BBQ for lunch at minimal cost, handed out ice blocks later in the day and extended the day for another hour.
Good guys to make this decision at short notice after their long planned closure on Sunday.
Too often it is forgotten that this is a business that has spent many tens of millions on the facilities up at Coronet and to make a decision like this when the weather gods and snow angels all get together to give us one special last day the management and staff deserve a big pat on the back.

I’m a happy Jetstar flyer – I travelled with them recently and what a wonderful flight.
On time, staff just so helpful to me, a very pleasant flight and I’d certainly travel again with them.
I wanted to comment on my good experience as there’s been a lot of criticism in our local paper.
