The Wakatipu Premiers rugby team continues steamrolling opponents whilst their Arrowtown counterparts have gone three games without a win.

Wakatipu beat Cromwell 45-10 last Saturday in their last White Horse Cup defence of the season and stretched their lead at the top of the Central Otago table to four points.

The Arrowtown Premiers are still second but only by one point after successive losses to Clyde-Earnscleugh and Wakatipu before a shock 31-all draw last Saturday against unfancied Alexandra.

Coach Hayden Finch says his team desperately needs to beat bottom-placed Cromwell in the final round-robin game this Saturday – ideally with a four-try bonus point – to guarantee a home semi the week after.

“We’re struggling for confidence, probably, especially when we come under a bit of pressure.

“We’ve got to get back on the winning wheel, I’m telling you.”

Saturday’s game is at the Events Centre at Frankton due to weather damage to Arrowtown’s Jack Reid Park.

Meanwhile, the Wakatipu Wanderers play a home semi-final against Upper Clutha in the Central Otago senior competition this Saturday.

Last weekend they thrashed Cromwell 65-10 at home.

SATURDAY’S DRAW: Wakatipu Wanderers v Upper Clutha Seniors, Queenstown Recreation Ground, 1pm; Arrowtown Premiers v Cromwell, Queenstown Events Centre, 2pm; Alexandra Premiers v Wakatipu, Alexandra, 2.45pm
