New Zealand’s newly-famous “animal oracle” has predicted Vanessa van Uden will be Queenstown’s next mayor.

Dalefield sheepdog Jo was last week chosen as the country’s answer to football World Cup psychic Paul the Octopus on TV3’s Campbell Live, after correctly picking four Tr-Nations rugby results. The seven-year-old collie, owned by farmer Chris Dagg, is now tasked with forecasting the results of All Blacks matches at the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

Mountain Scene got Jo to predict this year’s local election race.

She made a beeline for a plastic bucket emblazoned with a picture of Van Uden, bypassing fellow mayoral hopefuls Simon Hayes and Michael Scott. Each bucket contained same-sized pieces of meat to attract Jo’s attention.
