Resort identities are preparing to don their skates and hit the ice – although hopefully not literally – to raise funds for the Queenstown Ice Skating Club.
The fourth annual Stars on Ice event will be held in the resort on September 29.
Eight pairs, each featuring a club member and local “star”, have been busy practising in their bid to be crowned the winners.
Stars on Ice coordinator Ange Gibson says the event’s the club’s biggest fundraiser. Last year’s was a sell-out, so there’ll be two shows to cater for the crowds this year.
Each pair has a Givealittle page, where they’re trying to raise money for the club. The pair who rake in the most moolah will be named the People’s Choice winners. Some of the local personalities putting their bodies, and pride, on the line include AJ Hackett’s George Muggleton and More FM’s Joel Palmer.
Gibson’s surprised at how quickly the novices have “come along”.
“Some of them could hardly skate. The commitment they’ve shown is phenomenal. They’re putting their bodies on the line, the ice is unforgiving.”
Former mayor Vanessa van Uden will be one of the judges.
Tickets are available from the club’s Facebook page.
