A funding platform, enabling visitors to give back to Queenstown, is being established.

Destination Queenstown’s (DQ) expecting to officially implement the ‘Love Queenstown’ fund, one of the first projects to come from DQ’s revised regenerative tourism strategy, around next February.

The community fund platform invites visitors, and the visitor industry, to come together for the benefit of the Whakatipu and its residents.

It will facilitate ‘‘visitor give-back’’, financially and in-kind, to enable tourists to be part of the region’s regenerative future.

To be delivered and managed in partnership with the Wakatipu Community Foundation, funds raised will be spent exclusively in the Queenstown-Lakes on environmental, social and cultural impact projects.

But, DQ says, the local business community ‘‘will also have the opportunity to participate, demonstrating a bold commitment to our region’’.

DQ’s holding a session for members with its non-profit co-ordinator, Ash Bickley, on Wednesday for businesses to learn more.
