Queenstown mountain biker Jess Blewitt posted a top-10 finish in Austria last the weekend, despite a heavy fall in her qualifying run, forcing her to withdraw.

Competing in the elite women’s downhill at the UCI Mountain Bike World Series in Leogang, the Kiwi champion and GT Factory pro recovered to finish ninth in the finals, 13 seconds behind winner Valentina Holl (AUT).

Blewitt, 20, also moved into the top-10 overall, despite not picking up any points in the first round.

She says considering she didn’t think she’d be riding at all last week, it feels ‘‘pretty good’’ to ride into ninth place.

Queenstown’s Toby Meek, the men’s downhill champ, finished 28th, and was one of only two Kiwis to qualify for the final.
