Gates to The Hills will swing open today, giving the public a rare chance to wander around the private golf course and vast sculpture park.

Additionally, the $5 donation on entry and $20 fee from those who booked to play The Farm, a par-three course, are going straight to Southern Lakes Sanctuary’s coffers to continue their predator control and ecosystem protection work.

Assistant golf pro Parker McNitt says The Hills Open Day, held for the first time last year, runs from 9am till 5pm — the Clubhouse will be open, with special lunch and breakfast menus organised for the day and a Taco Medic food truck.

The Hills has also worked with students from Queenstown’s Liger Leadership Academy, who’ll host visitors and get them up to speed with a self-guided audio tour app, which they’ve designed and created.

The course, designed by Queenstowner John Darby, was developed by Sir Michael Hill, who bought the deer farm in the mid-’90s, and features world-class sculptures crafted by Kiwi artists, including Sir Michael’s son, Mark Hill.

It’s also hosted several NZ PGA and NZ Open tournaments.
